A place for Huddersfield students to meet, share ideas and explore the possibilities of artificial intelligence — whatever your course or experience.
AISOC is the student AI community at the University of Huddersfield. We bring together people who want to understand artificial intelligence, exchange ideas and discover how it can be used thoughtfully across different subjects and industries.
↗You don’t need to be an expert. Bring your interests, questions and willingness to have a go.
We’re a student-run society for anyone who wants to try AI on something they care about. Any course is welcome. No coding experience needed.

Pick an idea and get a first version working. We’ll help you get started if it’s your first time.
Try each other’s apps, get feedback and share your finished project at the end of the term.
A rough five-session programme. You’ll go from exploring ideas to building an app you can share and demonstrate.
Introductions and food. Explore app demos, including a short Copilot demo. Brainstorm ideas around your subject or interests. Get help creating a GitHub account and applying for Copilot Student. Choose your app’s purpose, define three core features and sketch a screen. Share ideas and discuss next week’s preparation.
Install VS Code before session 2.
Check everyone’s setup and access. Follow a guided introduction to VS Code and AI-assisted coding. Start building, take a break, then continue developing and checking changes. Review progress together.
Bring your laptop and make sure VS Code is installed.
Recap and troubleshoot. Learn how to save progress with Git commits and GitHub. Develop features, take a break, then keep building and testing. Save and review progress.
Bring the app you started in session 2.
Learn how to test an app, then test each other’s work and fix issues. Take a break, add finishing touches, publish apps that are ready and prepare for the showcase. Do a final check and save.
Make a note of anything you want feedback on.
Set up and give short app demos. Take a break, then try the apps and vote. Announce the results and award a prize if confirmed. Share feedback and ideas for next term.
Have your demo and shareable link ready if you have one.
